A Brief History Of Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions
by Hyde on Nov 6, 2015 4:01:00 PM
It’s appropriate to say whether or not one is providing a lengthy or brief history of Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions. It’s appropriate because the company started in 1875!
That’s right, 1875.
As in the nineteenth century. The century before the century that’s before the century we’re currently living in.
That’s amazing when you consider how fast our current society moves. Things are no longer measured in decades or even years. They are measured in months and weeks.
Nowadays, you buy a piece of technology and it’s obsolete by the time you get it home.
Well…
That’s not the case with the knives and blades made by Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions. Many of the techniques used to make knives in the 19th century are still being used today.
Well, the blanking, heat treating, grinding, and polishing sure are; the laser cutting is relatively new.
Isaac P. Hyde
The company was started in 1870 by engineer Isaac P. Hyde in Southbridge, Massachusetts. He realized industries in the New England area were in desperate need of good quality knives and he decided to change all that.
When he started, Hyde did everything- and we mean everything. He made the knives, sold the knives and delivered the knives. That was quite impressive for a time without automobiles, phones, and computers.
Before the end of the century, Hyde’s knives had earned a venerated reputation and a new factory. A second factory was added in 1917. It was built in the shape of the letter “H.”
Why an “H”?
The “H” designed allowed for future expansion, increased work flow, and better lighting. The company’s next major expansion occurred in 1925.
Then, in 1927, Hyde Industrial Solutions released its first line of what would become one of its most popular products. We are, of course, talking about its painting and decorating tools.
Since then, Hyde Industrial has continued to expand. For example, a new warehouse was added in 1984. And in 1998, Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions acquired the American Paint Paddle Company.

Today…
Hyde is the largest manufacturer of industrial machine and hand knives and decorating aids and fix-up-paint-up tools.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find many products that either themselves, or the packaging they are sold in, wasn’t cut by a knife or blade made by Hyde Solutions. The company is also a major player in the food processing industry and the diamond wheel industry.
Yes…
We live in a fast-paced world, but the values put forth by Isaac P. Hyde still ring true. They still resonate because quality never goes out of style.
At Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions, we endeavor to make the best product we can, from the most appropriate steel we can find, and make it better than we did the day before.
Since 1875, Hyde has given “America the edge it needs.”
