Hyde Has Been Manufacturing Slitter Blades for More Than a Century
by Hyde on Jan 5, 2017 2:19:00 PM
No one beats Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions when it comes to making a top quality cutting knife. After all, Hyde IBS has been manufacturing knives and blades since 1875.
In particular, Hyde has been manufacturing slitter blades for more than a century.
What exactly is a slitter blade? What exactly does “slit” mean?
Well, “slit” means “to cut lengthwise into strips.” A “slitter blade” is generally used to cut large rolls of materials into narrower rolls. Examples of materials that are cut by slitter blades include paper, corrugated paper, film, foil, and textiles.
Now “score slitters,” also called “crush cutters,” don’t actually cut anything. Instead, they crush things—thus the name “crush cutter.” Of course, this crushing action produces a result that’s like a cut.
Since they don’t have to cut, their edges are usually dull. Since their edges are dull, they are usually ignored.
Hyde does not ignore them. We pay attention to the “cutting” edge of our score slitters. This attention is what separates Hyde’s slitter blades from the competition.
Hyde also pays attention to the material it uses to manufacture its slitter blades. We only use the finest steel, with the most common type being 52100. If you need slitter blades in another alloy, we can do that too—for example, D2, M2, and stainless steel.
We grind edges and radii on our own custom designed equipment. This gives our products a consistently high quality edge.
Standard edge angles on our slitter blades are 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°. Meanwhile, edge radii range from “sharp” to 90°, with “sharp” being the most common.
We manufacture slitter blades in just about any diameter. That means our slitter blades fit the industry’s most common slitting machines.
Hyde’s slitting blades fit in machines manufactured by the following brands:
- Appleton
- Arpeco
- Arrow
- Ashton
- Baldwin-Gregg
- Cameron
- Coretech
- Didde-Glaser
- Dusenbery
