Hyde Holds World Record for Quality Industrial Blades

Hyde holds the world record for quality industrial blades!

mill knivesOkay, they don’t have a world record for quality industrial blades, but if they did, Hyde IBS would certainly be in contention. After all, Hyde has been manufacturing high quality knifes and blades for more than 140 years.

When Isaac P. Hyde began making knives for the leather and rubber industry in 1875, Ulysses S. Grant was in the White House and Bizet’s famous opera, Carmen, was performed for the first time.

Interestingly, a group does keep world records for knives. That group is Guinness World Records.

Retractable Utility Knife

For example, there’s the world’s largest retractable utility knife. This utility knife is more than 32 inches long, in excess of 10 inches tall, and north of 3 inches wide. The oddity was made by a west coast tool retailer.

This knife weighs 65 pounds. It’s so heavy because inside the hilt of the utility knife, which is fully retractable, is a replacement blade.

Pocket Knife

India is home to the world’s largest pocket knife. Of course, you’d have to own a pretty large pair of dungarees to fit this knife into a pocket

When extended, this record-setting knife is nearly 20 feet long. Its steel blade is over eight feet long.

The knife debuted at a mall in Jaipur, India in 2010. At the same time, at the same place, and sponsored by the same group, the record for the world’s largest wooden spoon was set.

Collection of Knives

This next record we’re not too sure about. Luis Bernardo of Fremont, California owns the globe’s largest collection of knives.

In no way do we mean to dull his collection, but it’s only 2,175 knives large. That’s a huge amount, but it seems a little low.

Wouldn’t you think the largest collection of knives reach five figures? After all, the knife, at least a blade used for cutting, is one of humanity’s oldest tools.

Smallest Knife

The world’s smallest knife is 300 nanometres thick. Dubbed a “micro-knife,” it was introduced by researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the University of Colorado. What is it used for?

In 2016, the chamber of commerce for the appropriately named Bowie, Texas, built the world’s largest Bowie Knife. Both the town and the knife are named after the famous Alamo fighter, Jim Bowie.

With a stainless-steel blade, the record-setting Bowie Knife measures 20 feet in length and weighs 3,000 pounds.
