Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions knows quality heat treating. After all, we’ve been heat treating parts for industries for 130 years and we literally heat treat millions of parts every year.
Okay, Hyde knows heat treating, but what exactly is it?
Heat treating is when metals are heated to extreme temperatures to alter their properties. By properties we mean characteristics like ductility, hardness, strength, toughness, and resistance to corrosion.
Heat treating is a lot like the bass line of a rock song. You probably won’t notice a good one but you’ll definitely notice a bad one.
When it comes to heat treating, if it’s not properly done the results can be catastrophic. That’s why it’s a good idea to let Hyde do all of your business’ heat treating.
There are a lot of different techniques that fall under the umbrella of heat treating like annealing, tempering, and quenching. Hyde knows them all and does each one with aplomb.
There are also three types of heat furnaces. Those three types are atmosphere, vacuum, and salt bath.
Atmosphere and vacuum are ideal if you need a low quantity of parts. These two furnaces are simple, but very versatile. Meanwhile, vacuum furnaces can reach high temperatures and are very consistent.
The salt bath furnace is a cost-effective solution for large volume runs. They can effectively heat treat a wide variety of steels.
Hyde has two salt bath furnace systems and both are controlled by computers. Salt bath furnaces get hot very fast and they stay hot.
They can achieve and maintain a desire temperature (or range of temperatures) with amazing accuracy. This ability is how salt bath furnaces produce high quality and uniform parts.
After your part is heat treated it goes through the tampering process. Steel that has been heat treated is very strong but also very brittle, too brittle to be used in most industrial applications. The tampering process fixes all that and helps the steel lose its brittleness.
The combination of heat treating and tampering is how Hyde makes quality parts.
To begin the process of having Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions do your heat treating, send us a drawing of the part or the part itself. Tell us the material you want the part made out of and the characteristics you need. Also, tell us how many parts you want us to produce.
Once we have all of that information, we’ll prepare a quotation. To contact Hyde, click here.
