Hyde’s Mill Knives Are Not Run of the Mill
by Hyde on Dec 23, 2015 12:00:00 AM
To say they are knives used in mills is accurate but a little vague. Traditionally, they are hand knives used to cut rubber or tires.
Nowadays, the definition is a bit broader and you might hear knives that cut paper, wood, or textiles referred to as mill knives.
Since 1875
Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions knows a thing or two about mill knives. When Isaac Hyde began making blades in 1875 he made mill knives. Many of those designs are still in use today only they take advantage of advancement in steel and ergonomics.
Speaking of ergonomics, Hyde makes a soft-grip that helps lessen fatigue. These handles are cushioned to absorb shock and sit comfortably in the user’s hand.
If that doesn’t sound like something your workers would prefer, Hyde does make hardwood blade handles.
Tools of The Trade
In fact, when you walk into a mill anywhere in America, chances are good you’ll find crafts people using Hyde mill knives. Not just any mill knives, but custom ones.
That’s why Hyde likes to say they make, “tools of the trade.”
Problem Solving
When Hyde manufactures a mill knife, they aim to help you solve one of your problems.
For example, they make knives with sharp points which are ideal for gouging leather. Square point knives are made for slabbing, and industrial butcher knives are perfect for cutting tire rubber.
Let’s take a closer look at four other tools Hyde Industrial Blade Services makes:
Hacking Knife
Hyde makes a hacking knife with a leather handle. Why leather? The leather protects the hand from heat.
Sloyd Wood Carving Knife
As the name suggests, these knives are great for carving wood. They are very sharp and made out of high carbon steel.
Potter’s Knife
Hyde’s potter’s knives are manufactured out of high carbon steel and are designed to cut pottery and ceramics.
Paint Spatulas
They’re not necessarily a hand knife, but we wanted to mention them anyway. These spatulas are made with spring steel blades. That have been hardened and tempered.
Other blades and knives made by Hyde includes:
- Carpet knives
- Cable knives
- Roofing knives
- Skiver knives
- Stitcher knives
- Hook knives
- V-trim knives
If you’re not seeing what your industry needs, don’t worry. Hyde can make whatever you need. You can begin the process of having a custom knife or blade made for your company by using our request for quotation form.

When it comes to mill knives look no further than Hyde. After all, we give America its edge.
