Join Hyde in Making the Switch to Solar
by Hyde on Feb 12, 2018 3:25:00 PM
At Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions, we believe in investing in the future and staying up to date on the best way to run our business. With the consumption of non-renewable resources such as coal, gas, and oil on the rise, we made the decision to do our part for the environment and take the plunge into solar power.
Solar is a renewable source of energy and companies around the world have been utilizing its operating and environmental benefits extensively for a while now, but much still needs to be done in order to exploit the full potential this has for our society.
What exactly is solar energy?
If you are not familiar with the qualities of solar energy, it is the energy generated from the sun. The best part of it is that it is free, unlimited, and not harmful to the world we live in. The sun has been automatically producing solar energy for billions of years, and it is a vital component of the existence of various life forms. Now that we as a society know how to access it, we can use it to replace other forms of energy that are damaging and harmful to the environment and our planet overall.
Taking all of these things to heart, we made the important decision to nearly double our commitment to clean energy generation. As your leading producer of industrial blades and knives, Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions recently added an additional 784 high-efficiency LG solar panels to the top of our headquarter building. We feel that this was an important step to help sustain the community and achieve all of the long-term cost savings that this decision has to offer.
During the course of the year, we expect to see a great contribution to the power grid from these solar panels, as well as the elimination of other power generation sources. The anticipated solar generation by this addition of solar panels is the equivalent of to that used by 28 homes. We also expect our total yearly generation savings to replace the greenhouse gas emissions of 55 cars and remove carbon at the equivalent of 247 acres of the average U.S. forest.
Here are just a few advantages of utilizing solar energy:
- Ultimate in renewable energy. It is an unlimited power source, meaning we cannot run out of it.
- It can help reduce the cost of operation over time.
- It is flexible and can be utilized for a variety of diverse applications. At Hyde, we can use it for general operating requirements and equipment operations.
- It offers very low maintenance costs.
- Solar energy systems generally don’t require a lot of upkeep. As long as you keep them relatively clean, you are good to go.
- The technology in the solar power industry is constantly evolving and improving.
In 2015 we made the decision to install an initial solar array of 850 panels overtop some of our buildings to help generate electricity to run the office, plant facilities, and corresponding equipment. These panels were comprised of “smart reflector” technology and now over half of our entire roof area is covered in solar panels.
With reaching a total of 1,634 panels in use, we estimate that our solar power is now contributing about 35% of our total energy use.
As we approach a century and a half of providing reliable industrial blade solutions to our customers, we are happy to join the trend of solar.
