You’ve Got It Made with Hyde’s “Tools of the Trade”
by Hyde on May 6, 2017 1:57:00 PM
Hyde Industrial Blade Solutions has been manufacturing mill knives since our inception. During that time, Hyde has not just made tools for professionals, we’ve made “tools of the trade.”
Isaac P. Hyde started making quality mill and hand knives in 1875. He did more than manufacture them, he sold and delivered them as well.
The hand and mill knives he made were for the shoe and leather industry. In other words, he made hand knives that cut rubber and leather.
Obviously, a mill knife is a knife used by a crafts person in a mill. Historically, the term has referred to a knife that cuts rubber.
Even with modern manufacturing techniques, many products made with, or from, rubber have excess bits attached to them. The extra rubber needs to be removed before the product can be sold.
Often, this excess rubber is removed by a crafts person with a knife. Usually, that knife is manufactured by Hyde IBS.
Many of the designs used by Isaac P. Hyde are still being used, and sold, today. We sell them under the I.P. Hyde brand.
Of course, our inventory of hand and mill knives has grown dramatically over the decades. Hyde manufactures tools for a variety of jobs in a variety of industries, including:
- Agriculture
- Carpet
- Ceramics
- Converting industries
- Drywall
- Flooring
- Insulation
- Leather
- Pottery
- Roofing
- Rubber
- Shoe
- Stencils
- Tire
- Wood carving
The hand knife designs that have changed since Isaac P. Hyde’s day, have changed for the better. New materials, stronger and more durable, are now used.
Furthermore, many of our blades have been equipped with ergonomic handles. When a knife fits well in the hand, its holder can use it longer. This means increased productivity.
During Hyde’s 140 years of making “tools of the trade,” we’ve gain an intimate knowledge of the capabilities of knives and blades. We continually tap this experience when making our products.
Some of the knives and tools we manufacture include:
- Cable knives
- Carpet knives
- Hook knives
- Industrial butcher knives
- Leather handle hacking knives
- Long point knives
- Paint spatulas
- Potter’s knives
- Roofing knives
- Short point knives
- Skiver knives
- Sloyd wood carving knives
- Square point knives
- Stitcher knives
- V-trim knives
If you don’t see the knife your plant or operations need, don’t worry. Hyde can make it for you.
Chances are good that we currently make your hand or mill knife, we’ve made it in the past, or we’ve made something very similar.
