Hose Cutting Products
Cutting hydraulic hoses is a tough and demanding process. Hyde Hose Hog™ hydraulic hose cut-off blades can make quick work of even the most challenging applications.
Hose Hog™ blades are superior to original manufacturers’ blades – lasting up to 5 times as long as other blades!
And if you’re looking for value, our hose cutting blades are competitively priced— meaning you get excellent value for your money.
Cutting Hydraulic Hoses
Hydraulic hose is one of the most indestructible components you’ll ever encounter. It has to be strong enough to handle high fluid pressures, pressure cycling, repeated bending, high temperatures and remain in service for years.
But the same material characteristics that make hydraulic hoses stand up to such tough conditions also make them difficult to cut. Traditionally, most hose cutoff machines have used an abrasive wheel. The wheel runs at high speed to grind or melt away rubber and other soft materials in the hose and high-strength steel reinforcement wires. Abrasive wheels generate heat, smoke, and debris that can contaminate hydraulic systems.
Steel blades are the cleaner, more efficient way to cut hoses. The circular blade slices the hose rather than cutting a path through it. This way, it doesn’t leave any debris in the hose. The cutting operation setup causes the hose to bend, thereby applying tension to the hose to pull away from the blade during the cut.
This bending action makes cutting easier and keeps the hose ends from rubbing against the spinning blade. Because the hose opens up faster than the knife penetrates, the hose does not pinch the blade. Since there is little contact between the sides of the blade and the hose, it generates no smoke. You end up with a clean, quality cut, fast!
Benefits of Our Blades
Our circular knife blades are made of high-speed tool steel and come in four styles – smooth beveled edge, wavy scalloped edge, notched edge, and “Euro-slot” edge. We developed each one for a specific application, with new blades under constant development as new types of hoses enter the market.
A smooth beveled edge blade can cut all types of hoses because it creates the least amount of dust. However, if you’re cutting any hose with a significant amount of steel wiring in it, such as 4- and 6-wire hose, the knife edge will dull quickly. A dull blade requires greater operator force to cut, meaning you need to make the cut more slowly.
Cutting an industrial rubber hose with no steel is ideal for a smooth edge knife. Other uses include large-diameter cloth hoses with helical wire and exterior steel braided hoses where the braiding is taped, annealed, or welded in the machine before the cut is made.
Wavy Scalloped Edge Knives
A wavy scalloped edge knife provides you with more aggressive cutting action, as the wavy edge makes contact with the hose. This interrupted cutting action severs the steel braiding inside a hose and requires less operator pressure during the cut than a smooth-edged blade.
Because of this, wavy scalloped edge blades are the most popular blades used by equipment manufacturers or anyone cutting their own hoses. Generally speaking, wavy scalloped blades excel in cutting all types of hydraulic, pneumatic, polyurethane, PVC, and thermoplastic hose.
The notched edge and “Euro-slot” designs are really just variations on the wavy scalloped edge blades. Each does a great job cutting steel wire reinforcement in hydraulic hoses. The choice between wavy scalloped edge, notched edge, or “Euro-slot” edge blades is a matter of operator preference.
Hose Hog™ Machine Blades for Hose Cut-Off Applications
Hose HogTM steel slitter blades slice through hoses like a hot knife slices through butter. This slicing action provides a much cleaner cut, less deformation, and easier cleanup than a standard abrasive wheel. Our slitter blades come with either a bevel or wavy scallop edge. The bevel allows for more versatility in types of material that you can cut.
The wavy scallop edge is ideal for hoses that contain any significant amount of internal steel. The cutting action of the wavy edge needs less pressure to cut, thereby significantly reducing wear and tear on the blade. The result is a longer-lasting, resharpenable blade that can withstand even the toughest of hose-cutting applications.
Hyde’s slitter blades and hand knives make quick work of the toughest Teflon, metal, hydraulic, plastic, or industrial rubber hoses. Improved productivity, dependable performance, and a longer-lasting cutting edge help to ensure a clean cut every time!
Hose Hog™ Hand Knives for Hose Cut-Off Applications
